We stumbled on this place by accident. We were looking at an overnight stay south of Sydney to break our journey to Canberra and this was in the right place but we knew nothing about it. We were told it was ‘Industrial’ and there is a large factory complex further up the Town Beach, though with 3/4 beaches to choose from, you needn’t go near the City Beach.
Right opposite our Motel is a very pretty Harbour where people fish, canoe and swim.
There are a few restaurants around the Harbour and it seems they aren’t too expensive especially if you eat early evening when there are specials to be had.
We had a quick drink last night before buying Fish n Chips from the very popular fish shop on the Harbour.
The Fish and Chipshops are nothing like those we recognise at home. They offer a range of fresh caught fish, with beer batter, breaded or grilled fish but due to the Greek influence a fresh Greek salad is available as an accompaniment, though chip portions are massive so be warned. Jaki had Flathead and I had Baramundi and we had a shared portion of Calamari though this was a bit tough in places.
We ate this sat on the grass overlooking the Harbour watching the sunset.
This is a great Family area with lots of BBQ areas, covered picnic tables, acres of pristine parkland and beautiful beaches. North beach has great breakers and we sat watching the surfers dive off the rocks with their boards into the foam, then ride them all the way up the beach.
A small lagoon offers sheltered swimming though we witnesses two sets of smoke or steam coming out of the ground at one end of the lagoon, which then drifted across the water. This happened time and time again. A 30 second burst, then a minute break. We wonder if it’s anti mosquito but we haven’t seen evidence of too many Mozzies, so maybe it’s working?
There’s a salt water pool to the left of the harbour which we used this morning. It is a beautiful pool, with a dedicated lane swimming area (6 lanes) and a huge general area. Best is it’s free.
